Chrome spray paint- cheap fix or big no-no??

My grill and headlight bezels were spraypainted black by the previous owner of my 77. Both are plastic, and I'm not going to try to have them professionally rechromed. As far as I know, chroming involves hot molten metal, so recroming plastic is impossible anyway. But, that's not the point. My plan is to use paint stripper to get off all the nasty looking black spray paint from my stuff, sand down rough parts, and then spray it all with chrome rustoleum spray paint. I test sprayed the stuff on a metal shelf in the store, and it looks like it lays on smooth enough to not look bad. So my questions are- has anyone reading this post used this type of spraypaint on plastic? How well does it hold up to rain, dust, and car-wash soaps? If I don't get any problems from spaying my grill and headlight bezels, I'm going to sand down the tail light bezels and turn signal bezels. The chrome on them is all pock-marked and chipped. Thanks for any help, guys.

I've never seen chrome paint that really looks like chrome. It's usually a little more like silver. Anyway, the key to getting a nice looking finished product is in the preparation. Your parts need to be smooth and clean before painting. Any imperfections or scratches will show up even after it's painted. I would try lightly sandblasting them, but you probably don't have a blaster, so you'll have to use strippers and sandpaper. As far as durability I wouldn't worry. Those paints are tuff and won't be coming off easily if applied properly.

chroming dose not involve molten metal... if its plastic, theres such a thing called spray chroming
