Muffler rusted off lol

After completing the intake DX mod (taking the metal plate out of the "throttle body (doesn't even look like one)" I drove my car around the block. The next week for about 6 days I was really sick and could not get out of bed. So I waited until I could really see how well my engine responded to the mod.. I got up on monday and drove to work then 30 minutes to a UPS station to pick up a package.. The whole time my car sounded really throaty but it was coming more from the back than the front... On the way back from the UPS station i heard a clunk then a dragging sound and my exhaust tone dropped severly down to a deep annoying rumble... I pulled to into an office complex and examined the muffler still dangling from the brackets... The muffler had rusted itself off!!!!!!! Yeah it sucked I had been saving up for my JDM front conversion (had around $850... (not including the $150 I will never let my car account drop under).. Well I guess it was like fate because I was planning on getting a Tanabe cat back system anywayz.. I drove the the local ricer store and demanded they order me a Tanabe hyper medallion exhaust... Unfortunatly tanabe no longer makes that system for the 89-91 hatchbacks. so I ended up with the next best thing an Apexi world sport...... Is it better than the greddy? The dyno proves that the apexi gives the second best performance next to the tanabe.. So I guess only time will tell... My exhaust should be here by friday and hopefully by the beggining of august I will have my JDM conversion ... Pics will be posted shortly..

lol rusted off, that happened to my boys 96 civic, he couldnt afford a new exhaust tho, so he still pushes stock.

at least it forced you into a new exhuast which is always good. i cant wait for those JDM pics.

just curious...on that dyno proven best...which brands were #'s 3,4,&5? do you remember how much each brand costs?

i need to start looking into exhausts myself. i know everybodys opinion about every brand is very different. so i curious what the dyno had to say

The order for the 88-91 civics and crx exhausts went as follows
These are the figures as shown to me at my local motorsports shop, also because of the rarity the aftermarket JDM exhaust was not an option...

1. Tanabe Hyper Medallion 12-15hp (added 13 to 91 civic si, best construction and design, mean racing look) was going to get
2. Apexi World Sport (Tip is subtle but race looking, sounds nice and low never supposed to sound like a weed whacker, very comparable performance gains to the Tanabe, I might have them weld a different tip on)
3. Greddy Street Performance (great system, looks great, sounds great, dynoed just below the world sport)
4. Skunk2 Mega Power (looks great, nice sound, performance gain not as big, too expensive $709)
5. DC sports Cat back (known as the loudest with the least power gain)

These are just the figures that were given to me at the local motorsport shop and from the research I have done these figures are correct.

BTW check out my flash intro to my upcoming flash website... It is about 4th generation civics (I will add some cool looking CRXs too).... Don't expect information about body kits though.... This is JDM style! www.geocities.com/rion14_2000/EF9site.html

I seriously doubt that a 91 civic si gained 13 hp from a tanabe exhaust!

Doubt it, but the guy running it on his car there ran a dyno before and after and it had in fact gained 13.... I didn't believe it until he showed me the dyno.. Of course his Si had a b16 in it but that is another story..
