Cool New York Auto Show

Went to the NYIAS today... and me and some other people from my club met and talked with Scott Settlemire (aka FBodyFather from some camaro boards)... good times. Most of the things we asked him, and basically everything you'd want to know, he couldn't tell us due to the whole corporate secrecy deal.

New Camaro: I am going to start making sure I've got good credit for when it comes out (or in GM official speak "if" it comes out); pics do NOT do that beauty justice, not even close. I used to HATE the back end... after seeing it in person I like it now, still have a little gripe with the taillights but not nealy as major as I used to. Front end is pretty pointed, couldnt tell that in the pics, but I like it, people seem split about 3 to 1 in terms of like the front vs. don't. Seeing the interior in person I am kinda digging it now and pretty sure it'll keep growing on me. Wheels will of course be downsized for production but are nice besides the whole 21 inches and 22 inches deal. What else... I dunno, but I like this car.

Challenger: Well first off, does it look good? Yes. Do I like what they did with the styling? While it's nice to use design CUES from the late musclecar era, I think it is pretty much STUPID to take a 71 challenger and just round off the edges to pass it off as a new car. And by the way, you know how they said it's got a carbon fiber hood and those two stripes are unpainted sections? Well the sons of bitches are lying out of their ass, those "carbon fiber" stripes are STICKERS. And also since this pig is about 1000 pounds heavier than the Camaro (assuming 4th gen weight) and Mustang, how in they hell do they expect it to compete in terms of either handling or acceleration??? Probably a good thing for DaimlerChrysler that this likely won't make production... at least, they'd be smart to totally redo it before releasing it.

Shelby GT500: OK so it'll have more power that the mustang GT and it'll have Shelby's name on it. Looks are nothing big tho, for the most part just looks like any other stang out there. And also, I can see why it didnt do so hot in those recent comparos done by whatever magazine... the things got like 2 1/2 inches of wheel gap all around, so I can only imagine how non-aggressive the handling will be.

I will post links of pics once my friends upload them... and I guess any questions you have for me just post em up.

Re: New York Auto Show

BY THE WAY....

SATURN SKY. One sexy ass car, holy shit. And the redline has some real nice power (4 cyl turbo, i think 260 HP 260 TQ)... wow. Honestly thsi is a downright good looking car. Interior is very nice too, and the shifter in the 5 speed has a very nice feel. Definately a huge step up for saturn, as the Aura also shows... and in the looks department, if the Solstice got a 6, the Sky gets a 12.

And if I had $100,000 to spare there's be a Caddy XLR-V in my driveway right now.

Re: New York Auto Show

It will become production barring GM going out of business or something crazy like that.

Re: New York Auto Show

she said on the mic, that the new camaro will be better in performance and fuel mileage than the base corvette, and I'm always hearing how gm would never let the camaro be better than the corvette.

Savage, I was just watching this video where they said the whole challenger hood is carbon fiber and those stripes and the label weren't painted the color of the car.

They never said that that I heard, and it will not happen, whoever said is is either fired now or at least not doing public speaking. That is the same reason that they underrated the LS1 camaros, if the camaro can out perform the vette for 20k less then nobody would buy a vette aside from your run of the mill mid-life crisis guy or someone just buying it for the name
