I've heard similiarly crazy notions from philosophy, poli sci, and anthropology professors before. And similiarly some uptight students who feel the need to protest everything. I personally think some of my best professors were the ones furthest from the 'norm'. I don't see why it matters what he thinks, if you don't like him, don't take his classes.
