2001 Lumina Upgrades

I just pinstriped my white lumina with red pinstripes. this summer she's getting a spoiler, maybe chrome rocker panel covers, maybe dual exhaust, and tinted windows. should look pretty good when I'm done. I'll post a pic of it. What you guy's think? Good idea? waste of time/money? any thoughts?

Re: 2001 Lumina Upgrades

Aircraft Stripper (that's what it's called)

Spray on, wait until it stops crackling (like rice krispies, the paint almost jumps off), rinse with water and wash, done. Sometimes you gotta do it twice, not too often. Mean stuff. Will not hurt rubber, as long as you make sure it is all flushed away, so you can do it w/tires mounted, if you have to.

That's how I did the SS's wheels. Probably should do these too, they are a bit cloudy.

The chrome rocker stuff is a judgement call, I don't care for it, but it doesn't make me wanna puke either, so it's safe whatever you decide to do...the other stuff I'm down with.

As long as you don't put on some 4 foot high ricer wing and 22" reverse offset gold spoke wheels, you're ok with me.

Re: 2001 Lumina Upgrades

Word of warning. That aircraft stripper is EVIL if mis-handled. Only use it in a well ventilated area and use industrial strength rubber gloves. Any paint supply store should carry it. MAke sure you read all the instructions before you open the can, as you could do severe damage to your skin, eyes and lungs if you don't!!!!! Talk to the guys at the paint store and get their input on the precautions you should take and HEED their advice.

Personaaly I think it's a huge waste of time to mod grandma's car since it usually means you'll be driving it more aggresively. And these cars are not ment to be driven aggresively. Trust me, Im replacing all kinds gaskets and doing a bunch of b.s. work.

Do yourself a favor...ditch the Loom and get something worth modding. These cars suck.

I'd have to disagree - my grocercy getter will eat your lunch. ...and no one expects to get left behind by a "grandma car", but it happens rather often.

Re: 2001 Lumina Upgrades

yeah, well its unfortunate for you boomina that you dont have my car, cause I can mop the floor with almost anything that dares attempt a shot at the "granny grocery go getter". I already drive it aggressivly enough, and not a single problem with it yet.

Really? I always put a big tarp over me and whatever I was stripping, and breathed deeply. Maybe I misunderstood it. That explains a lot...

Sorry..didn't mean to rip on the granny car owners. Especially since I own one for the time being...but my real car is German. Good luck catching me, you better be pushing at least 400 horse out of that 3500 lb. grocery getter.

Othervize I vill "de-pimp" your automobile cause it iz veally zucking ya.

Hey!... No fair whipping out the German on us! You can't bring your howitzer to a stick fight.

Re: 2001 Lumina Upgrades

Hmm. I chased a 392 hp BMW M5 for about 12 miles around some twisties a month or so ago...he seemed a little miffed he couldn't shake me. Once we straightened up, though, he was over the horizon, made me look like I was in reverse

(His line through the curves was pretty pathetic...I don't think he'd ever heard of "apex" )

Why do the no-drivin' clowns get all the good cars?

Re: 2001 Lumina Upgrades

My favorite "German" moment was leaving a Porsche sucking the tail of my 70 Chevelle through the twisties in the mountains of West Virginia. The look on his face when an American car with Michigan plates stomped his Porche's ass through his own back yard.........Priceless!!!
