Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

hi everybody, ive done alot of research on this race car over the weekend, and for the life of me I cant figure out what color to use to paint my model Sierra car.

The yellow on this car is very distinct, I really need some help identifying a match color closest to this as possible, i have supplied a couple of pics. I would prefer to use tamiya paints if at all possible.

any help would be greatly appreciated....

cheers

Gav

If you can find it, maybe the 'Kodak Yellow' from the NASCAR stock car, I think Testors still makes it.

Re: Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

thanks for your input guys, Ive just now looked into tamiya's camel yellow, and it looks very, very close to what im after . also just finished doing a google search on 'camel yellow' and found a link to a Nascar #4 Kodak chevy painted in Tamiya's Camel yellow . I think i'll goto my LHS this week and buy me a can of that tamiya CY paint and some primer

thanks again,

cheers Gav.

I think Camel would be too dark, Kodak yellow seems closer..

The Tamiya Camel Yellow is what I would go with. The Tamiya TS16 Yellow seems a bit bright. I have just compared a old wreck which was done as the Longhurst car with photos I have and it is very close. However I can also show you photos that would suggest TS16 was correct. My memory of the real cars tell me Camel is closer. The Roodecal sheet for this car suggests Humrol Chrome Yellow No:8.

Gav, one thing you must do, is to use plain white decal under the door numbers as the Roodecals are very thin and will allow bleed through of the yellow with the black/red stripes.

Mal, thx for the info, I have several pics of the B&H Sierra, some show a lighter yellow, and alot are really close to the Camel Yellow. It would be nice to compare CY to testors Kodak Yellow, but im really leaning toward tamiya's CY. Also thx for the info on the decals, this project is actually for a Scalextric 1:32nd scale slot car , Ive heard of roodecals, but not sure if they have the decals I need in 1:32nd scale, ive found 1:32nd scale decals at 'patto's place' but have heard mixed reactions about the quality of those decals, prices are pretty good tho.

cheers Mal & everyone for all the info

Gav.

Re: Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

Gav i have done this one ages ago and i used a humbrol yellow which i thought wa sspot on for it. I cannot tell you a number but i am sure if you look at their range you will see a burnt yellow in there.

Good luck, great car but id do the #20...

Another option might be Tamiya chrome yellow. It is part way between their regular yellow and camel yellow, orangeness wise. I used it on my GT40 last year and it looks quite similar to the diecast above.

Re: Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

Rallyraider nailed it, that looks to me like a perfect match and seems similar to the Kodak yellow.
To me at least, the Camel yellow has too much of a sandy hue to be right. I don't have any pictures of the TS16 on a car as I haven't done anything in that color in a long time.

Re: Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

I used Chrome Yellow (Tamiya) on my Audi Sport Quattro.

And Halfords Ford Signal Yellow on this Seat.

The Signal Yellow looks like it may be a bit pale though.Steve.

Gav the #20 had a certain famous Aussie (Fat) driving that car in the form of Alan Jones....
But then again the #25 did win the race the year before...

Re: Aussie Touring Car B&H Ford Sierra RS500 cossie

thanks Steve, your pic of that Audi has done it for me. With that lighting in the pic of yours I def like the 'orangeness' of that Tamiya Chrome Yellow. Fantastic, thanks ya'll.
