I recently purchased a 1982 528e, and the power door locks seemed to work okay at first. Now, however, whenever you lock the trunk or driver's side door, all of the door locks engage (which they should), but then immediately disengage. This is maddening, because I can't lock my car!
![]() I'm suspecting the driver's door mechanism, since while it seemed to work at first, I do believe that it didn't always lock all the doors when I pushed down the driver's door lock. Now it does lock them all, but then they immediately unlock. I've also seen that there is a central locking computer, and a vacuum system involved. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, and could point me in the right direction before I go blindly taking things apart ![]() Thanks, Scott |

I was reading about the double locking system of the older BMW cars and i saw a similar problem and i think they even gave the reason. That would give you a good place to start because then you would know what you need to fix. I will try to get you more information and find the page that i was looking at, but if you dont want to wait then you can try doing some research on www.google.com about "BMW Double locking"
Hope this helps TooL |

ok, well the good news is that i found the page that i was talking about and i found the information, but the bad news is that i think it tells you what you already knew i found it by looking up e30 double lock (i undersand that you dont have an e30, but i think the info still applies).
the page is http://www.mesaperformance.com/faqs/centlock.html and the part of interest says "Central locking works but unlocks a second or two later. If you lock the doors and they unlock again almost immediately it is because there is a problem. A motor is dead or something is jammed. The central locking is telling you that everything is not locking properly. Find out if all motors work, make sure there are no bent rods or things jamming the mechanism." It might be worth checking out the sight anyways just to get some extra info. Sorry for the false alarm hope it helps, TooL |
