First Time driving

Alright, everyone first sat in a driver seat with someone. Myself was with my mom. Well lemme get to the story. She would freak out every single second of it. Even when Im trying to lean forward and check the cross-street for oncomming traffic she would lean forward and check forward blocking my view. >_< ahaha, and one time i was pulling into our driveway and well its like the width of two cars and there was one car already parked there with barely enough for the one i was driving to get in. And well I guess I was too close for her standards. I wasnt going to hit the car but I was gonna be like a foot or so from it. Doesnt sound bad but a foot can look like its gonna hit from inside the driver seat. Anywho, share you first time driving stories!

Re: First Time driving

My first time driving on the street, my dad let me drive home from the bar when I was like 12 because he had a little too much to drink...it was only a few blocks. I did pretty well and he wasn't freaking out or anything. But before that I had been moving my parents' cars around the driveway, parking them out on the street so I could play basketball.

Re: First Time driving

My first time driving was with a driving instructor and my father, and it must have been a nightmare for the both of them. The driving school did this thing where you would get a discount on lessons if you provided the training car (they'd stick a 'student driver' magnet on the back of the vehicle), so I chose to use my father's Mazda B3000 pickup truck. So, the driving instructor told my father where to drive so I could practice, and we all went down there like one big happy family.

So, we get to this nice, empty, "safe" road; it was some factory filled road on Sunday, so it was deserted. On the right side were some trees, then a fence, and then the interstate. So I get into the driver's seat. My father was in one of the back side-facing seats, and the instructor was next to me. This was the VERY first time I'd ever been in the driver's seat, so I wasn't totally sure what I was doing (knew the basics, etc). I start the truck, shift into drive. OK, everything is good. I step on the gas. Here's where things went wrong. I was under the mistaken assumption that you were to press the gas all the way to the floor (yeah, I was dumb then). Well, when I did, the wheels spun on some gravel that was under us, the truck lurched forward, and torque-steered to the right. I saw a big old oak in front of me, realized I had to do something, so I yanked the wheel to the left. Now, this was a pickup truck, so that wasn't a good idea either. I managed to avoid the tree, but I overcompensated, and the truck was on two wheels for a second. Now I see the garage door of one of the factories coming toward me, so I finally remember the brake (I was a bit panicked). I hit the brake, and I stop... less than a centimeter from the garage door.

I ended the lesson of my own will that day due to a near-heart attack, my father drove back to the driving school, and I continued lessons the next week. Future lessons went without incident.

Re: First Time driving

I was 14, my friend Jack came to pick me up right after I got my permit and I was driving about 85 through my town whlie he sat in the passenger seat eating Cheetos, drinking a Pepsi, and saying "Wow, Andrew, you're a natural!"

Jack hated that Neon, and was hoping I would kill it. Sure enough, first car I drove, car I own now... well mine is much newer and nicer... and much less purple.

Re: First Time driving

When I was 5 my dad would let me drive on the beach. I slammed on the brakes once and threw one of my friends through the back glass.

Re: First Time driving

I was like 13 drove my cousin's mom's car in the garage. I then did my six hours with an instructor. The funest was driving my cousin's G35.
Him:You got your permit?
Me:ya
Him:Wanna drive?
Me:ehh
Him:Come drive and he pulls over
were switching seats
Him: you can drive right?
me: Ya

Tiptronic was fun

Re: First Time driving

I was just starting the 3rd trimester, and i was gettin tired of stayin in that mug, so i punched my way out like Chuck Norris, and gripped the wheel with my feet while i bit off the cord.

My dad was a little shocked to say the least.

hahaha

I was like 8 or 9 and we live out in the boondocks, and to get to our house there is this curvy hill where the last turn up is a 90º turn, pretty steep and it sucks in the winter. It was his old Ford truck, jacked way up with tall narrow tires on it and I had to drive it up the hill while he was in the back with a shovel spreading sand/salt mix on the hill. I did just a fine job. You could say I'm a natural, with a strong family influence of flying around corners twice the posted speed. I scare friends quite often. There is also the "back way" to our house which I always drive, but it's another steep ass hill with just one bend in it, and I went up that hill in 2wd when it was icy, literally went sideways, seen my friend grab the door with both hands and started laughing. People in school have denoted me the best driver, but they should see the shit I do when I'm alone, if someone else is in the vehicle i'm usually pretty nice.

Re: First Time driving

First my dad was the relaxed cool one, about a year into driving their roles switched. My dad became the freaked-out, irrational one; and my mom became the confident he's doing a good job one.
