Re: Acer Laptops
don't know about that particular model, but my friend had the Acer "Ferrari" laptop. It was great, VERY powerful, VERY expensive, and looked VERY hot. thing was, though, battery life was almost non existent. Reliability isn't bad, Acer is a decent company to buy from. imo, better than a damn dell.

I know this is old subject but that shit costs like 1400 dollars. My boy just told me about this yesterday. Odd. So anyways with that price i'd go with a more reliable/trusting company than Acer which I can compare those to emachines. |

Re: Acer Laptops
I think Acer is trash honestly. Worked at circuit city fixing computers and i've seen plenty go bad or not work right out of the box. Id stay away from anything acer, dell, or e machines. For a nice laptop get an HP or Compaq.

Re: Acer Laptops
Compaq and IBM have some support issues. Both Acer and Compaq laptops that I've seen have run excessively hot and are heavy.
Good laptop brands IMO: Fujitsu, Toshiba, IBM, Sony and higher end Dells.

Re: Acer Laptops
Look at Lenovos, from reviews it seems they make them at the same standard as their IBM branded models but can be found for cheaper prices.

Re: Acer Laptops
I have had a travelmate for 2 years, and I love it, nice design, quite light, and I like the way the keyboard is set out, quite a big screen as well.
The battery life is a drawback though I suppose |

Re: Acer Laptops
I'm on my new Apple MacBook right now and I'm in love with the thing. It doesn't run too hot, it runs quick, even with only 512 mb of ram, the screen looks great, the programs are easy to use and the keyboard on this thing allows me to type much faster than I do on my desktop computer. With student discount and an upgrade in a couple of areas, I got it for about 1450 and haven't been disappointed yet. Oh yes, and another major plus is that the battery on this thing lasts me about 4 hours or so. The only drawback (depending on who you are and what you do with your computer) is that the graphics are integrated. For me this is not an issue as I am mainly using this for word processing, audio editing and other minimal tasks. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't take my desktop with me on the road, so I had to give in to the world of laptops.

Re: Acer Laptops
Yeah, stay away from cheap Dells. Had one...went higher end, works great. Toshibas are awesome, and VAIOS are great, althought samething, you gonna put out a lot to get a good one. I've had friends buy ones from stores as is instead of offline and they went witht he cheapest one they could find, bleh! indeed.
Compaq, HP, and cheap Dells are definitely your "stay away from" comps. Macs...meh. if you really want a mouse with one button, not that they can run windows (i hate mac programs not to mention, they dont have as much software avaialble yet) then sure, i guess. they're small, that's about all i can say for them.
