Venture power doors closes, then opens, sometimes beeps

This is just an irritating problem.. and I suppose a safety issue if one is in a hurry. The door closes 40% of the time, but bounces back after closing 60% of the time. 20% of the time it actually closes, it is apparently not seated propery, or at least not recorded as such. In these cases, the warning beeper goes of as soon as you put it in drive. It happens often enough and is annoying enough that one is willing to drive with the constant beeping, annoying as that is.
Anyone have similar issues?
thx

I think there was a safety RECALL on the sliding doors. I don't have power side doors, so I don't know exactly what it was about, but you might want to do a search of the net and see what you find.

Take Care,

I meant to mention that - the recall is for the handle, which has injured people. unfornately nothing about the electric auto-close/open mechanism

You have a 1999 - right?

I think there are one or two other recalls having to do with the door not latching properly. They came out in late 2001 or early 2002.

I believe you have a couple of options:

1) Call a dealer up (or take it in), give them you VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), and ask them if they can find any recall notices that apply to your van.

2) Go to mygmlink.com and register your van. You will need to supply them with some information (I don't remember what exactly, but at least the VIN and something to show that you are the owner). Once you are registered, they SHOULD show you any recalls that apply to the van. I seem to recall that it takes a day or two to get registered and confirmed.

If you do talk with a dealer, ask them if they have access to any records that show if any recall work has been done on your van. If so, try to get a copy of the paperwork showing what was done.

Let us know what happens.

Take Care,

yes, I did register there last year in hopes of finding that - thanks for the reminder - but they only list the handle recall - They just sent me another recall notice for the handle last week. If I had more faith in the dealer I would have them replace the handle and hope they might clean the contacts and realign the mechanism or whatever is ncessary to make it more reliable

Re: Venture power doors closes, then opens, sometimes beeps

Good morning...I had the handle recall done....all they do is pop off the old handle and pop on the new.....it would be hard for them to screw it up.....

Perhaps GregA might have a schematic, but I'm wondering if the sensor for the reversing mechanism is messed up....just a thought...Glen

Try cleaning the brass contacts with steel wool. Also verify that the weather stripping or seatbelt is not interferring with the door. I've had to clean the contacts and after doing so, the door would close and STAY closed. The seatbelt occassionally and the weather stripping once in a while gets in the way so the door can't COMPLETELY seat, causing the beep.

Re: Venture power doors closes, then opens, sometimes beeps

My '97 started doing that in 1999. I took it to the dealer on several occasions in hopes that they could find out what was causing it. But the technicians at the dealer could never duplicate the problem, it would close perfectly for them each time they tried. They cleaned the contacts, and did several other things to no avail.Eventually , the door stopped working on it's own, and I never fixed it, rather, turning it into a manual door to which I haven't had a problem with it in the 6 years or so it's been manually operated. Hope you are able to find out what's causing the door to do that, and hopefully the repair won't be too expensive.

Cool Re: Venture power doors closes, then opens, sometimes beeps

I had the same problem on our 98 venture SWB, I took it in to get the recall done on it, and they fixed it. The fix lasted about a year, and came back. I looked at the brass contacts and noticed that they are real dark brown color. So I took my dremmel with a light grinding disk to the brass contacts and sure enough, bright and pink. I looked at the probes that contact it and they were corroded too, so dremmeled that and shut the door...Presto works like a charm every time.
