The paint peeled.

O.K. I have read the F.A.Q's and done a search, but I still don't understand why the paint peeled on my model. I'm working on a Ferrari Enzo. It is the first time I have used nail polish as paint. I primed the car about a week ago and have let it sit (covered) but put a toothpick under the box to let it breath. The type of nail polish I have used is called Santee nail laquer. Can anyone give an idea why it has peeled?

I have sometimes the problem with peel whan the paint is not liquide enough for the airbrush . Or if i apply to may coats at one time .

Can you use nail polish colors on model cars? I've never heard of it before. Wouldn't the paint come off with time?

That is probably because this question is hard to answer. Suggesting other brand is easy, but it doesn't solve your problem. (that's why it's difficult)

I've seen some people using nail colors for car modeling, so it's possible, but you have to find the right brand, and that takes some trial and error.

I guess the paint film of this particular brand is so inflexible that it doesn't like the plastic body part.

If you can't make a switch to more conventional hobby or auto paint, my advice is to mix the nail polish with a compatible clear paint. That might be able to make the mixed paint more flexible. (But that will make the paint translucent, so it requires more coats. Be careful not to lose any surface details.)

Whether finding the right kind of nail polish or compatible clear, you'll need to do some experiment.

Both unfortunately. The primer was fine until the nail polish was airbrushed. I'm going to strip what is left of it today and reprime. What do you think would be a sufficient wait time before paint?

There's no easy answer for this.
For a paint job to work, everything has to work together.
The primer could have been too wet or too dry, or simply not compatable with the FNP. You may have thinned the FNP with a thinner that dryed too quickly or that reacted with the primer. You did'nt even get to the clear coat which is where a lot of problems come.
On one of my FNP experiments the FNP simply never hardened, even after a month it was still tacky to the touch.

hmm.. ya i tried to paint my lambo once and after a day of drying... it started to wrinkle.. BAD

and it was soo rough that it looked part of the car

i mean wrinkles half an inch high it sucked

i don't know why i had to respray it with different paint for it to come smooth

i've moved on from that and i got an airbrushing kit, it's so smooth and clean..

i would recomend airbrushing to ANYONE

Well that has thrown me. I can imagine contamination or poor surface preperation preventing the primer form sticking and incompatibility or lack of bite making the nail polish peel. But application of the top coat causing the base coat to peel is just plain weird!

Did you wash the model completely and correctly prior to priming?
What primer did you use? (many automotive primers don't stick to plastic effectively)
How long did you leave between:
Washing and priming?
Priming and Final Coat?

As RallyRaider has said - it sounds like incompatible primer or bad surface prep. Give it a go with standard model paints, and check what happens. If that works OK, it is most likely the paint reacting...

Dupicolor primer, I've used it before, never had an issue.

I washed it in water with a tiny bit of soap, washed throughly, let it sit for about four hours, primed it, then let it sit about a week. Then the color coat, 2 mist coats, waited about two hours, then 2-3 wet coats.
