Need to know if it will work?

Hey guys, i need to know if the LT1 camshaft will lift into my 305 TBI V8 without changing the rollers, valves whatever... also would it take a lot of work and money to convert the motor to carbrator? what will need to be done? also lol i have an automatic with super long gears, does anyone know what size come stock on a 92 RS? and what will be some good gears for street riding/racing THANKS! If you could help

Re: Need to know if it will work?

If you dont do alot of highway driving go with 4.11 gears if you do then go ahead and go with 3.73, but since its an automatic.. thats what alot of people here go with, so i'd recommend 3.73 over the 4.11 gears.

Re: Need to know if it will work?

for the cam, all you need is diffrent valve springs for valve train wise, and remeber you have to get your prom redone also. and i would highly recomend to change the timing chain while it is off. i plan on doing this swap when ever i see a good deal on a lt1 cam.

Re: Need to know if it will work?

And why would you want to switch to a carb? it is basicly a carb now, it is just fuel injected carb.

Re: Need to know if it will work?

go 4.11 if all you want is off the line punch and very little at speed.

Re: Need to know if it will work?

Get timing chain, matched valve springs, and all the gaskets you gonna need to replace. Like 97cavalier said, get your prom redone aswell. I have my cam and timing chain already, but i'm not installing until sometime this summer, while i'm in school. Free dyno tuning and runs, also gonna install a small supercharger while i'm at it. Should be fun.

Re: Need to know if it will work?

Well, if your on a really tight budget. But the correct way would to replace evrything that would be involved with cam swap. Not everything, but you know, everything!!!!!!!

UH you need to change the lifters at the same time, you can use new lifters on a old cam but never used lifter on a old cam or if they arnt original, also dont get them mixed up. REPLACE THE LIFTERS!

Re: Need to know if it will work?

When you buy a cam, it should come with matched lifters for the application. Not only will you have the proper lift rate (ie lifters), bu tI'm sure you'd be really pissed when you go through the work of putting a cam in and find out it's only performing at 60% of it's capapbility due to high mileage partially collapsed and incorrect lifters.

Push rods would be a good cheap idea as well. When you take them out, roll them on a flat true surface, I'll be willing to bet they are bent.
