Question brake troubles

please help....

my wifes accord wagon freaked out on her a few days ago.
she heard a strange noise and the brake pedal slowly went down to the floor as she came to a stop...
i took it out about 10 minutes after she got home and nothing happened.
went went somewhere this weekend and it happened on and off, mostly after we had been driving for a while...
it will be ok then we come to a stop and the pedal will start going to the floor slowly then the starts rolling cause it's an automatic. if i pump the brakes once or twice it stops sometimes..

is it air trapped? master cylinder? what?

yup it's the master cylinder, or it could be one of your screw bleeders that don't keep the air out, but i'm 95% sure that it's the cylinder

its a master cylinder, to be more accurate its a bad seals. i had that problem with my 89 Accord many years ago.

i have a suggestion, don't to be cheap and get OEM master cylnder, if you get aftermarket you will have to replace it pretty soon.

for Honda OEM parts check this place out -> http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

I am having the same problem, when i come to a stop ( hopefully ) , when i press on the pedal hard once the brakes lock ok, however, as soon as i release the pedal or presure of the breakes, the pedal goes all the way down to the floor, its geting worse.
a footnote: about a month ago my girl friend accedently put powersterring fluid in where the brack fluid should of gone. Can this be the result. if so how can i have the problem fix ? I also notice fluid dots of fluid on the garage floor just under the master cylander . any suggestion ?...

Re: brake troubles

you'll probably have to change out your master cylinder and you'll definately have to flush your brake lines and put fresh fluid in.

Re: brake troubles

u paid too much for that master cylinder, those run about 100 bucks....

but any ways there is 2 bolts holding it to the wall, plus there is 2 holding the lines, try and not strip the 10mm bolts, and try to see if u can use a flare nut wrench to not mess up the bolts...

remove it, clean around and then put back in and bleed the brakes. u will have air in the system.

about an hour job.

Re: brake troubles

this WAS a 2-year old thread! He probably doesn't even have the car any more, let alone brake problems!

fenderbender339 - BAD news about the power steering fluid. That will eventually destroy all the rubber in your brake system. Flushing might buy you some time, but the wheel cylinders/calipers will give out before long.

Re: brake troubles

It'll be all four - they're all contaminated with the same stuff.
