Cool ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Hi,

the ´57 Chevy Bel Air is one of my fovourites. This project makes the Coupe into a Custom Cabrio.

Progress so far:

I wanted to have a "flat" car, that demands for a sectionning. However after this sectionning the grill, headlights, rear fins of the fenders have to be reworked. So I tried something different. The wheel-wells were cut out, the upper part of the cut-out piece again cut away and the smaller wheels wells glued in the body again.

So I got a sectionning effect while keeping the stability of the model.

The side skirt was shortened, the roof cut off and the characteristic 57 side trim sanded away.

... to be continued ...

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Little Update:

I will glue the engine cover in its position. Cooler opening under the lights is now narrower.

Rear bumper is lifted a little bit, chrome parts are shortened and some alignments at the rear wheelwells.

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Hi,

engine cover is completely puttied. I will later cut a smaller opening in the former engine cover. Where formerly the rear seats were, I glued in a sheet and puttied everything the make it in one line with the trunk.

Now lots of sanding is necessary.

Interior shell comes from a Fujimi Koenig Testarossa.

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Sorry to say my '57 did'nt get much further...
I like a lot of what you've done. I think moving the rear wheel wells back would have helped the balance of my roadster, and fitting an interior from another kit (say, a 60's vette) would have helped with the process as well.
Here's what I ended up with...

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Hi Bill,

well, this ´57 -sofa is a LITTLE bit different to the former foto , but anyway: it looks great, well executed , I like it.

Maybe you give your former idea another try, somewhen ?!?!?! I think it could turn into a nice custom ...

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Sorry to hijack your thread...
I do have another '57 kit in the closet, though it's the 'high tech' AMT kit, the one with photo-etch and rubber hoses.

That, will likely be build box stock, though it's far to early to tell, as I have a huge pile of un-finished projects to complete before I can even think about starting anything at all.
Again, the best of luck with your project.

I agree with you, because only as a stock car you can use those additional P/E parts

nice to hear that I´m not the only one with this project, the Rallye C2, the Ferrari 355 (and another SECRET rallye project) on my bench

Nevertheless - have fun (it is only a hobby...)

Re: ´57 Chevy Bel Air Custom Cabrio - WIP -

Hi,

little update between sanding:

The interior of the Fujimi Koenig Ferrari fits well. The tunnel between the seats is lengthened upwards to make it a unit with the body.
