reverse idler gear lock bolt fell out!

Help! I have a 89 celica ragtop and the reverse idler gear lock bolt fell out of the tranny. It rarely goes into reverse and it leaks out the hole. I bought a new bolt but how do I get it in? There is a shaft or pin that has moved and I can't move it back. Any way to do this short of removing the tranny?

Re: reverse idler gear lock bolt fell out!

Chiltons and haynes no help. (duh) The answer turned out to be dental tools and about 4 hours worth of patients. Working thru the bolt hole with some makeshift dental tools and an icepick with heat shrink tubing on the end I finally got it back in place. The bolt then screwed right in and it all worked! Saved me about $1500-$2000 to remove and tear down the tranny! Praise God! Hope you never have this problem!
