Tamiya Williams FW11 Nigel Mansell 1986
Hi everyone,
This is my first post. Just completed my 3rd model which is the 1/20 scale Williams FW11. Thought I would share a couple of my pictures now that it is finished. |

Re: Tamiya Williams FW11 Nigel Mansell 1986
Welcome!
I see you decided to go with a matt clearcoat on the red X's. Are you going to weather them? But seriously, i'd love to see the real pics.

Re: Tamiya Williams FW11 Nigel Mansell 1986
Hi everyone,
Thanks for looking and apologies for my stupidity trying to attach pictures from my HD. In my defence, the pictures did display in my new message box. I will read up on how to attach them and fix this when I get home tonight. Kind regards, Billypee |

Re: Tamiya Williams FW11 Nigel Mansell 1986
Hi Folks,
A bit of commentry on the piccies... * The blue decal is a pig. I ended up cutting it out leaving the red pinstripe and brushing in a slightly deeper blue. It went well until I clear coated over it and the paint just ran into the white at the bottom! Managed to salvage it though. * I made rear shocks and springs myself with brass pipe, tube and wire. Its more difficult to work with than it looks but I will definitely do it again. * I used the SMS kevlar decal which is quite thin and I managed to melt some of it! Be warned and use light coats of clear. The Studio 27 decals are much thicker and hold up to clear no problems. * I used the SMS seat belt for the first time. I really like this product. I got a felt pen used for writing on T shirts to colour the material and that worked well. Thought about making some shoulder pad thingies where the Sabelt decal goes but I couldnt think of anything that would have been suitable without taking up a lot of time. * I used 0.4mm copper wire for some details like the steering wheel and the rear view mirrors. I need more practice but its a good idea to drill out the bolt rather than hand paint them as thats far too awkward. * Tyres were fitted in the wheels before painting and decalling as they tear otherwise. I just brushed X18 to the side walls, applied decals, waited a couple of weeks and cleared over them. Then I wore the tyres down with a rotary tool. I will post some more piccies in a moment. I am part way through a Lotus 25 build at the moment and plan to add pictures of that too. All the best BillyPee |
