better way to get to work

ive been thinking for a long time to either pick up an econo car like a metro, or aspire, or 1.8 laser. or go for a motorcyle to save on gas. i figure in a week i put on 240 miles, this is a full tank for my car(my 03 zx2...which gets 26 mpg). what should i do? i could also modify my car at my own risk of losing the warentee. any suggestions?

Re: better way to get to work

do an intake... a motorcycle sucks during the winter and during rain. they're great other times, but for more than half the year, you don't want it to go to work on.

I'd do a cold air intake and better exhaust system

Re: better way to get to work

Unless you live somewhere that RARELY rains and NEVER snows, the motorcycle just isn't a good choice. Riding in snow sucks HARD. Riding in the rain sucks WORSE... Besides, short of a Ninja 250 you will only get about 50mpg. You could go scooter, those will get you close to the 100mpg mark (Just read an article in a magazine about bike fuel economy).

I'd just find a buddy(s) who is(are) willing to carpool from a central location. Then you don't have to drive to work every day yourself... at least you share the fuel costs.

Re: better way to get to work

Sell it and get a Civic. It will get constantly 40+ mpg on the highway.

my '93 civic is old, beat up, and a pos, BUT it still gives me about 35 or 36 to the gallon.

Re: better way to get to work

get a metro for close to $1k. you'll get 45+ mpg.
basically anything with less than a 1.5L 4cyl engine will get good mileage.

I don't believe hybrids are worth the cost just yet--possibly in a couple more years.

Re: better way to get to work

I was actually considering those electric scooters they have...obviously compare the maintenance and long term costs compared to say a gas powered scooter for summer and save the car for the shitty and snowy days.

Now is insurance on a scooter the same insane pricing as insurance on a motorcycle? I hope to god not...
