Exclamation Sr20det

HHEEELLLLOOOO!!!!!!
HMM.... i am workin' this summer makin' ok money so i wanted to ask two things.
1. If you had the money would you rather buy a nice bomex kit non-pop up lights you know a show car. Or would you rather buy an SR20DET?
2. If i do decide to what will i need if i cant afford a front clip? Axles? downpipe? info please.

I know you'll have your input Jspec sileighty! Not a bad thing.

I think it all depends on what kind of car you want. If you are building more of a show car then I would probably go with the bomex kit, but I don't know because a nice SR20 sitting in the engine bay is pretty sick itself.

If it's gonna be a daily driver or whatever then I would get the SR swap.
If you don't buy a front clip then the stock axles will work, but if you got a front clip and it came with axles then just use whichever ones are in better shape. Also most of the time when you just purchase the engine it doesn't come with the downpipe. Although I e-mailed www.jspecauto.com a while ago and they said that their engines come with the downpipe and the stock side mount intercooler. The side mount intercooler is another thing that is commonly missing from the engine when not purchased in the whole front clip. Also small parts like power steering lines or the AC compressor are not included a lot of the times. You can use the power steering lines from the KA24DE though and also if you don't get the SR ac compressor then the KA24DE compressor will work but only 3 of the 4 bolts will bolt up, but it will still work. So buying a front clip will save you a lot of time but it will of course be more expensive. Also it would be a bitch to move

Talking

Thats true about what i want but i guess when i save up and get laid off after 1 1/2 months (temporary) if i dont have enough for the motor then i guess i'll buy the kit. But hopefully i'll have enough, my dads a mechanic but i dont think he'll get it installed for about 2 months
It took him a month to put a new timing chain on. simply because of lack of time.

BTW do you know of anybody thats bought a motor from jspec? because i'm kinda skeptical about payin canadians for a motor. nothing against canadians or nothin'. I just don't want to get screwed.

And lastly where can i find mounts for the sr20 and at what cost? Do i need them?

The engine mounts for the SR20DET are the same mounts that are found in the 240 SX. So if you bought a front clip then use which ever ones are in better shape but if you just buy the motor then the mounts in your 240 will work fine.

Yeah I know what you mean about sending all that money and then getting ripped off. I think it's like when you are buying anything expensive from someone online. I was looking around for a new computer once and I found this site that had everything i wanted and the price was hundreds lower than the other people so i was thinking they were either going to rip me off or it wouldn't include everything. Anyways they accepted credit card so I payed by credit card and I made copies and copies of the receipt and copies of the credit card bill just to show that I did pay for it. That way incase if I never got anything you could always take them to court or something and you have the proof to show you got it. So I don't know anybody that has actually ordered from them but I would pay by credit card and keep all your reciepts/e-mails and everything just to prove you bought it.

That's cool that your dad's a mechanic because then you won't have to spend money on labor. That extra 1-1.5k that you save could go towards something else like a new clutch or an exhaust.

Question the Deal

This is what they said what it should come with.
Is that enough without spending anymore?

you will also need some sort of an intercooler whether it be the stock side mount intercooler or a huge FMIC. You will need an intercooler and it's piping. You should also look at getting a blow-off valve. If the downpipe is not included which it's not in many cases then you'll need that. Make sure you have about $500 or so set aside incase of any problems with the motor. You might want to replace the fuel pump and the clutch as well. If you plan on upgrading your engine a lot then I would go ahead and upgrade the fuel pump now while you are installing everything else. Also with the engine and transmission out it will be very easy to change the clutch now rather than having to pull the transmission later and changing it then. You might also want an air/fuel ratio gauge and a fuel pressure regulator just to make sure that you aren't running the car to rich or to lean.

Re: Sr20det

FMIC? Is there a aftermarket intercooler that fits sweet and has good potential for a little extra boost on a sr20det?

hey man, your new so were going to be cool with you. On the left side of the screen, at the bottom of each post, there is a date. That is when that was posted. In this case, the last post was 3 years ago, and then you posted. We try not to revive old threads, if you have any questions, just create a new thread and we'll help you out.

ok seriously fitment is not really an issue if you buy the kit with the charge piping and fittings and whatnot, just make sure it is for your car thats about all you have to worry about. and yes they all handle a little extra boost. not too much though just a little.
