Capoeria vs Muy Thai

This is a snippet from the movie Tom Yum Goong. Same director as Ong Bak and you guessed it, it's Tony Jaa...so if you liked the action of the last movie, bet your ass this is gonna be as sweet. The DVD has not hit North America yet but I am currently downloading it and can't wait to watch this movie especially since I've been hearing so much about it.

Enjoy!

Re: Capoeria vs Muy Thai

Well they say Capoeria is a martial art disguised to look like a dance, but I think Capoeria is a dance disguised to look like a martial art. I don't think any amount of editing will make that fight look real, Capoeria is just too slow and showy.

Isn't it the same editor that did Ong Bak? Those fight scenes kicked ass.

Re: Capoeria vs Muy Thai

Capoeira is martial arts, it was disguised as a dance when the slaves practiced so the guards didn't know what they were up to. The stuff you see in the movies is obviously the more showy stuff, just like a "kata" from any ther martial arts...it's a "dance" to show you the moves of the fighting style.

No the editing was done on Windows Movie Maker from some guy who has a copy of the movie and just wanted to show that scene...liek I said, 5 more hours and I will watch the movie Myself

Re: Capoeria vs Muy Thai

Naw - it's not just movies. I've seen real open-style tournaments where Capoeria guys got their asses kicked by the kung fu and karate guys. All that spinning and jumping around just telegraphs their moves. The kung fu/karate guys got their punches or kicks in while the Capoeria guys were flipping around upside down...it's hard to block a punch or a kick when you're upside-down doing a handstand. And when you see a guy doing a cartwheel you can easily predict where he's going to land, so they're really easy to hit/kick if you time it correctly.

Capoeria actually looks better in the movies than it does in real life.

So far as I've seen nothing can compare to UFC fights - they are the real deal. The toughest guys with the hardest training - no other fighting venue is tougher.

But as a martial artist I still appreciate a good staged movie fight, especially with someone as talented as Tony Jaa. You can see his speed and technique are better than most, and the fight choreography is excellent when you have someone with that much skill.
