alternators..rebuild? rewire?

te options for an alternator for my vehicle are slim. the stock unit only gives out about 70-80 amps...bummer.

is there a rebuild kit or a rewire kit that can be done to the stock unit?

would a larger pulley on the alt increase amperage? (making the internals parts spin faster..)(or am i just stupid???)

any remedies or ideas?

Re: alternators..rebuild? rewire?

You can take your alternator to a shop that does starters, alternators, and other electronics. They can probably rewind your stock alternator for about 20-30 more amps (depending on how its wound now) but at the expense of more heat and less reliability. 70-80 amps is more than enough unless you're running crazy stereo equipment. If you're just running stock stuff like lights and ignition, 40 amps would be more than enough.

Spinning the alternator faster just helps it make peak amperage sooner, but doesn't make any more amps.
