WIP: '29 Ford Pickup Rat

After my first ratrod I really want to do another.
I found this great '29 ford and just fell in love with it.
I'll steal most of the mods from this, roof chop, channeled body, shortening the bed, frame mods.
My project will also be flatblack or a mix of satin and flat. I thought about primergrey but black is just the most stylish color for a rat. 'Rust' just isn't a color.
Still haven't desided on the wheels, I did red steelies on the T-bucket so I want something different for this, maybe the chrome wheels from '29 will do.

I already built a lime green '29 pickup and had a blast building it and now I get to have even more fun modding one to a ratrod.

Box

Parts

Another box of parts, a Dan Fink Speedwagon kit missing it's tires, this will donate it's engine and radiator. Maybe some more parts like the firewall.

I have only started this tonight, till now I have started planning on the roofchop and I did some work on the frame, still need to figure out how to exactly 'Z' a frame and channel a body.

Re: WIP: '29 Ford Pickup Rat

Some progress

cut of the roof and cut the frame to Z it.

And glued and puttied the roof back on.
The cab on the left is the same cab in original height.

Some progress on the frame.
Now it looks bulky but after glueing ittogether it use some sandpaper and putty the get a thinner, rounder shape.
I'm working with bigger inserts to get more surface for the glue to bind.

Re: WIP: '29 Ford Pickup Rat

This is what i like some real traditional hot rods. you can never go wrong with the old style classic never out of date. have you decided the color yet? if not maybe a mix of primers and some rust. give it that lived in look

Re: WIP: '29 Ford Pickup Rat

Sure I'll remove the decklid.
The bed is useless with a hole in it and the lid is only access weight.

I'm painting it flatblack.

I just finished mocking up the frame with suspension and engine. The front bar is allready really low. And the oilpan is also very low. I'll take a pic of my green pickup's front suspension to show how low that is.
Pics of stance when the paint on the wheels and engine has dried.

Re: WIP: '29 Ford Pickup Rat

Out of all the times I have seen this kit on the shelves of model shops and the like and this is the first time I remember actually seeing one going together!
I love that you are building it like a true hotrod also, custom all the WAY!! keep us posted, looks like it's coming along great.
