Question What primer use on black piece

I have a new model kit, all model is in yellow color but one part is in black color.

I have to cover primer first before tamiya paint but my question is which primer use. (Tamiya surface primer L Gray or tamiya surface primer L White or tamiya surface primer L light gray.)

Generally i donīt use primer on my models and my results are good. but in this model one piece of car body is in other color than rest of body.

I will paint the model with tamiya yellow paint.

thank you for any recommendation.

Re: What primer use on black piece

I would suggest start with grey primer which will cover the black colour.
If you are going to paint th epart yellow, put white primer on the grey primer.

Generally speaking, if your final colour is a light one (yellow, white, green), use a white primer for better colour effect. If you are painting in a dark colour, then grey primer is fine. But as always, there are no "rules" just preferences

PS Personally, I suggest you ALWAYS use a primer - it's worth it

There are too many answers to your question. My answer would be test prime 3 cards ( I use blank name cards which I can get 100 pcs for less than an US dollar). 1 gray,1 white, 1 light gray. Then spray the color you like on. When it's dried, decide which suits you the best. One peice of advice though, if you are priming one peice of the body then you MUST prime the WHOLE body. Otherwise you will NOT get the same shade! This advice goes for any primer <=> color testing.

Most people (me included) would recomend using white primer since most yellows are semi-transparent.

I was going to make a thread regarind primer. My question is: on a white body and wanted to paint a dark/heavy (ie: gun metal), does primer really necessary? What's the benefit of having it?

Re: What primer use on black piece

I'm guessing the kit you're speaking of is the Murcielago Roadster.

I'm planning on painting mine pearl white. My plan is to spray the whole car in grey primer, then white primer. Molding that engine cover in black was just dumb on Fujimis part.

I wish model companys would mold all body parts in WHITE!

Exactly, Lambo Murcielago Roadster.

Kit contain a cover engine from normal murcielago in yellow color..... I donīt understand this. Kit also contains second set of murcielago rims...

I agree with you, kits should be modeled in white.

Check this thread out, I think you will find some of your answers in there (at least you will get my point of view from post no11 ).

NO NO NO, every body kit should come in light grey so i would only have to use white primer. white body + white primer= missing areas.
