2000 explorer runs rough

i have a 2000 with 70000 miles and all the sudden it started running rough and check engine light came on help

Have the codes read. Some chain parts stores will rad them for free. They will probably be somewhere between P0300--P0310. If any of these codes come up, you have an engine misfire and will need to have a tune up.

i tried that and when the plug the code reader in it would not do anything we tried it on another explorer and it worked fine so no i have another prob

Check all your fuses under the dash. Check fuse # 17. It should be a 25 amp that also feeds the cigar lighter. That is the fuse that powers the OBDII connector.

I have the same problem with a 2000 explorer with 90,000 miles. It just started last weekend. Since I use my power plugs, I know that what was suggested as a fix isn't the problem. Was it yours? If not, have you found a fix?
