OBD 1 or 2 ?? 1995 wont start

Other than the fact this explorer has stalled time to time for the past ten years, The car failed to start after running fine and entering a store, coming back five minutes later it would'nt start, just turns and the vehicle shakes, the first two tries the vehicle turned over but run at low RPM and would not respond to the accelerator. since then I had it towed home.

I used both a jumper cable and jump battery unit in attempt to start car neither worked, connected DMM to battery reads 12-13v, checked fuel shutoff switch, in proper position. Currently has half tank of gas est 12 gals

I connected my OBDII scanner to the connector under the dash and received a "ERR" code, meaning the system was not compatible to receive OBD Codes. The car apparently OBDI complient but has a connector for OBDII, the plug is the 16 wire OBDII plug but only has four wires actually in it as opposed to the nine wires in OBDII.

Does anyone know how to get the codes from this car?

thanks

Look under the hood for the EECIV connector. the Explorer is considered a truck and might have both connectors for the 95 model. Have run into that on some of the vans.
After thought: Check all fuses too.

Thanks for the reply way2old,

I took your advice and made a second look under the hood and found the connector hiding under the distribution block.

I connected the obd1 scanner and received the following code:

542 fuel pump secondary circuit fault

Any ideas on how to diagnose that circuit?

I checked the relay already and swapped it and that didnt fix anything.

Maybe some connection between the PCM and relay or pump?

Thanks,

JD68

Can you hear the pump running? Check fuel pressure to be sure the pump is working. Make sure the pressure does not bleed off while cranking. The secondary circuit is between the relay and pump. Pump is also part of secondary circuit.
