Hood Ornament... All boxy years

I've got a hood ornament for sale on eBay from an 81-85 Caprice with an extra base for a 86-90 Caprice so it will fit all years from 81 - 90. Just figured I'd let people know in case anyone needed one. Here's the link:

Actually, it will fit all but one year. The 1986 does not have a hood ornament, the emblem is contained in the header panel.

It will, however, fit 1980-85, '87-90.

Ohh, thanks for the info. I've seen that once, but I just thought it was an option. I wonder why they didn't include a hood ornament on that year.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think it has something to do with the Caprice replacing the Impala as the base model full size car in 1986. Impala has always had a grill ornament, and maybe because the Caprice replaced the Impala, they adopted the Impala grill? But then again, they changed it back to the hood ornament in 1987, so who knows.

GM may have also done to differentiate model years. Each year they change some minor thing during a particular model's run. Sometimes it has to do with the taillights, other years, it may be the front end. I can remember back in the '70s, the Monte Carlo had the same changes from '73 to '77. Each odd year, the taillights had "bars" across the taillights, and even years had clear taillights with no bars. And the emblem on the front changed positions as well.

I guess they were just trying to find an easy way to mix things up without having to spend a bunch of money??
