H22a Question

a H22a Engine is from a 93+ lude.
do the newer ludes(2000) come with the h22a???

would this engine be good if i were to put it into my integra.

Why would you swap a H22 in a teg? Just fix up the teg. If you have a LS, RS, GS then just do a LS-R. (LS/VTEC) You will be putting almost as much horses as a H22

Hi there, Frostbyte makes an interesting point about a Frankenstein conversion, however you have to weigh the pros and cons of such a setup, ie. the variety of different components you have to source, things that can go wrong when you get it working, overall cost vs benefits etc.

I have raced against a 1996 NA H22a equipped Integra and I can tell you that properly set up, it is a VERY fast car! It is quite easy to get in excess of 220hp and you have LOTS of torque to go with it ( I've heard one chirp the tires in fourth during a race).

However, the final decision is yours, it's all about what you want from your hybrid and how much you're willing to spend to achieve it.

Well there are also pro's and con's with H22 swaps in Teg's. First of all to install the motor mounts for that requires custom drilling to the engine bay to my understanding which throws off the whole balence of the car which cause oversteer. Do you plan on making this car full race? Do you want it to corner well?

Not full race, I want it to be street legal but to go good on corners and have power to drive.

the H22A1 was first featured in the 4th generation Prelude from 1992+. it appeared in America in 1993 models.

the 1997+ Preludes feature the H22A4, an opendeck variant of the original H22A1, to solve overheating issues.


as for throwing off the balance of the car, an H22 wont cause as many problems as one may believe in a civic/integra chassis. it weighs barely 100lbs more, but if your original motor had air conditioning, the weight is nearly offset as you'll have to live without AC on the H22... unless you're ready for some minor refabrication of the front end for more clearance. whatever weight offset is left can be easily tuned out with a good set of adjustable valve coilovers.

your cost is about the same either way... people scream "frankenstein" CRVTEC conversions as the answer to more power for the civic/integra, but little do they realise the cost, fragility, and man-hours of work to get one working. the head does not just "bolt-up" as one imagines... some custom machine work is required. headgaskets become a common purchase with this setup, as i have helped more than a few replace them in their hybrids.

after all is said and done, you're going to pay about the same amount either way... but with the H22, you'll get more torque and HP right off the bat with stock components.
