Tamiya 1/24 Mazda 787B - 91 Le Mans Winner

Well, after all the trouble here it is.
It’s not totally finished. Need to give it 2 coats of clear (now it’s only paint and decals) but since I’m out of stock of X-22 and don’t know when I will have the opportunity to buy it I’ve decided to show it now.
Front window borders are slightly larger than they should be (about 1 mm) but this is the only way I found to eliminate almost all of the damn scratches.
Hope you like it.

Excellent work! Looks very clean

I've got the same kit, I'm waiting to do it - I don't think my current skill level can do it justice - yours obviously can - but when I do it I'm going to go all out, photoetch and everything. It combines three of my favorite things: Le Mans, Wankel rotaries, and Japanese supercars.

:flash:

Like always,

Great job GainsBourg......

Excellent idea to hide the damn scratches.... but in my opinion you will have to try remove the little peace of ruber in the middle of tires.

Very nice job Gainsbourg !
Just one advice (the same than BBCivic) : sand your tires ! So the small piece of ruber is away and the tires will look as they rolled !

Do you know where I could find this kit, I think it is out of product by Tamiya !?
Which paint did you use ?

Bye
STEVE

PS : does your name come from the french singer Serge Gainsbourg ?!

First off all thank you for your comments.

Vric:
Nope, not a single drop of clear. However I will have to give him at least one coat, just to protect the decals.

flyontheawll:
Always been a straight from the box guy, but you have right. I will try to find some good pictures and start to detailing it.
I will post some pictures in the future.

BBCIVIC,ninjaboy20,xim-crow:
Yes, I will sand the tires.
All the green parts are decals. Orange is painted (Tamiya TS-31 - Bright Orange).
Yes, my nick is inspired in Serges Gainsbourg (I'm a big fan of his work).
The nick I use for about 6,7 years is Akira, but since it's in use here at AF had to find a good replacement

Kind Regards.

Well, we can.

Clear does not only protect the decals from dust but also eliminate the visible decals transparent border.
I normally wait at least one week after the model is finish before apply the clear.

One more thing. I’ve decided to follow flyonthewall suggestion and detail the engine bay.
I have started already the process. However I’m having a great difficulty in finding photographs of the Mazda 787b engine bay.
If you find or can scan some good material form magazines it would be a great help for me.

Thanks.

clearcoatong decals

be carefull when doing this, make sure the decals are totally dry (about 3 to 4 days) and completely on, fast drying clear coats like the tamiya X-22 can dry quickly and "pull" on the decals causing a wrinkliing effect areound the decals' edges- i I recomend slower drying clearcoat (enamel base) such as humbrol paints, the downside is it takes so long to dry that it can not be handled for some days as well as dust and other particles can stick easily
becarefull!!!
