Copy a hard drive
Well, I'm getting an 80gb Maxtor today, and I want to copy my 10 gig to it. I will put them both in the case first. If I try through DOS, it just copies the folders, not the contents. I have heard that using windows doesnt work either. Do I need to get Norton Ghost to copy the hard drive?? Or just re-install windows XP on the new hard drive?
Thanks

If you didn't delete windows from your current 10gb, then just put the new 80gb as a slave, boot up windows, and copy from your C:\ drive (old HD) to your D:\ (new HD, usually defaults to D).

Just copying stuff in windows doesn't work, because you have registry entries and shared files in different directories, as well as hidden/protected files (STUPID WINDOWS!!!!) I tried X copy, but it couldn't copy a few files, so I got pissed off, and just formated and re-installed
PS: I didn't have the patience to wait and get norton ghose, and dolly was too complicated at the time. |
