wont shift out of park!
I have a 1997 ford taurus. I started the car and it wont shift out of park. The strange thing is that if I put it into acc. I can shift just fine, so I have been putting it in acc. then shifting into nuetral and then turning the car on. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Check the brake pedal switch.

Re: wont shift out of park!
A bad brakelight switch is most likely the problem like Kim said. But putting the key where you do is the only way to get around it for now.

Re: wont shift out of park!
Switch is easily replaced. It is located on the metal part that goes up under the dash on the brake pedal. You may need to remove the lower part of dash to gain easier access. Look at the connector on the switch too. These are bad about burning and allowing the wires to break conection on the switch. A shop should not be too expensive to repair this if you do not feel comfortable trying to repair yourself.
