Smile Fiesta rear wiper

:alien:

Hello.
I am going to be the first with a problem with my fiesta.
I have Diamond white 1989(F) 1.1L MkIII fiesta. I have a problem with the rear wiper. I have cleaned the copper plates that connect the rear hatch to the other part of the connection plate. Please can any of you give e any ideas on how to sort this out. Thank you

Lightbulb Rear Wiper

I have a MK3 fiesta but mine is a 1993, but i think all the principals are the same with the tailgate. I'm guessing your wiper is just not working. I had the same problem and done the same things, it turns out the wiper and bits are earthed through the hing pins in your tailgate. I took mine out and gave them a good clean and works perfect now you should try that. You can tap the pins out with a hamer and screwdriver or pin punch, just be carefull and make sure that you use the screwdriver to temporarily replace the pin as you clean them or you tailgate will drop and twist and completely f**k the other hinge.

Goodluck

Seems to be a common fault on the post '89 Fords, thought I was the only one!, ha ha . I had the same problem on my '93 Fezzy. Did the same as Rob on this one seems to be holding up (fingers crossed). Oh almost forgot was chatting to a mate of mine on Saturday and sounds like he has the same prob on his '96 Escort. Never had any problems with the rear wash wipe on my MK2, funny that.

Hi Rob

We have a 1994 Fiesta and have had this problem for ages. After reading your advice I decided to have a go. Sure enough the earthing is through the hinges and sure enough they were rusty. I left them alone and used a piece of wire to (temporarily) give a direct earth from boot lid to body. No problem, wiper working fine.

I'm sure I could have simply cleaned the hinges and it would have been OK as you said but, I was a bit nervous about knocking out the pins so I ran a heavy wire (17Amp) from one of the earth tags on the boot lid, hid it through the trim and through the rubber boot for the tailgate lock motor - and then to an earthing point on the body. And then, I oiled the hinges!

Belt and braces I suppose!

Anyway, thanks for the advice. You were right and you saved me a load of time!
