Re: drive axle is busted?
sorry about that guys, i have a '95 Camry. When i went to get my brakes done, the mechanic showed me the axle behind the front wheel rotor, it was apparently leaking oil or something, he told me it wasnt supposed to do that...
Also the light went on because i think the brakes havent been maintained for a while, and the front right brake system was going metal to metal... |

Re: drive axle is busted?
The oil you see leaking is the grease in the joint for that driveshaft (CV joint). This requires either a replacement bootkit if the damage is not severe, or replacement of the CV joint itself. In many cases it is cheaper?! to replace the entire axle with a remanufactured piece.
The brake light is triggered by either applying the emergency brake or the brake fluid level in the reservoir. |

![]() I've narrowed my brake light down to the fluid level sensor (by unplugging it, and the light goes off) but the fluid level isn't low. Ugh! |

Re: drive axle is busted?
Start by searching the FAQ thread.
Yes, you can do it yourself if you have a reasonable selection of handtools.
