overheating 89 camry le

well i was coming home tonight on rt 1 doing my usual 80mph and i looked down at my temp gauge and its in the red. i didnt panic and remembered to turn the heat on high since that can draw heat from the engine and the needle in the temp gauge fell back to about normal. when i got home i could here the engine hissing so i popped the hood and saw steam coming out of the radiator cap and the engine coolant container was boiling. i'm not sure if the radiator cap wasnt not on all the way or the fluid lost its energy cause it's kinda a greyish color.

should i go get my coolant system flushed? or take it right to somebody to look at it? thanks

come on anybody else have this problem before? i flushed the radiator last night and it stopped overheating but now it stalls when i take off and or around 1000rpms. i know there is some fluid from the radiator all over the engine bay maybe some got on the spark plug wires or on the distribitor cap. would that cause the engine to miss some cyclinders and make the car loose power and stutter. Help i have no idea what to do. WOuld it hurt to give my engine bay a nice bath when i get home today? please reply with any help/suggestion. thanks

Check everything in the cooling. Clogged radiator, water pump, thermostat, sufficient coolant, etc... If it's none of these then you might need to get your engine checked out. Just hope it's not the engine.

As long as you are OK. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

Same here. I had a '96 Camry LE V6(bought brand new) but in '99 I was involved in a hit and run. Unfortunatley, I was the one that got hit. To this day they haven't found the person that hit me.
