Angry Transmission & Brake lights

I own a '97 Taurus 3.0 engine and Iwithin the last 2 weeks I am unable to Shift from P to Drive; in addition my stop lights died. I changed the fuses, the stoplight switch and still nothing. Any suggestions as to what I'm missing here. Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you

Re: Transmission & Brake lights

Did you check the wiring connection on the switch? This is also a weak spot on Fords.

Assuming you checked Fuse 28 in the Passenger compartment as OK, then that guy connects to the Brake switch via a LT GRN/RED wire. This wire is Hot At All Times. When thBrake Switch is closed it sends the +12 battery voltage to the Power Train Control Module (PCM), the rear brake lights and the hi mount stop lamps via a RED/LT GRN wire. Check that you are getting the voltage on this side of the switch when you press the brake pedal.
If the voltage is not here, then perhaps there is a mechanical adjustment you can make to get the switch to close properly with the brake pedal depressed. I am not sure of that since I have not made that replacement before.
If the voltage is coming out of the switch then you must have a wiring problem from that point on as has been suggested in the previous response.
