Re: Replace Head Gasget

Which engine does your Toyota have? Do you have a Haynes or some other repair manual for the truck? you should get a manual before trying to change a head gasket. You may be able to check a book out at your local library. Read the book and write down the questions you may have and perhaps someone can help. I don't know a step by step procedure, however you will have to determine what needs to be done to prevent the head gasket from going bad again. The gasket mating surfaces on the head and the block must be in good condition and the head will need to be inspected by a machine shop for condition. You will need a good torque wrench to insure the head bolts are correctly tightened. With overhead cam engines you have to be aware of the timing chain or belt timing procedure. Get it wrong and the engine will not run. Make notes and photos of how parts are assembled before dis-assembly. Bag and tag parts so you can locate and identify them. I tried a search and didn't find any articles on head gasket replacement. I have pointed some general information that may help you get organized. There is too much involved for someone to write a step by step procedure here without lots of research. After you have done some preparation come back with specific questions and someone will try to help.

Good luck,
Clifton

Re: Replace Head Gasget

Welcome to the AF!

Both possible engines are detailed in the following link:

http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...sm/engine.html

A link to the entire manual is in a sticky thread in the pick-up forum.

Moved to the pick-up forum.

And FYI, a 91 is not a Tacoma, they came out in 95.
