Curtis I Need your Help..!
Hey Curtis, i'm owndering if it's my tranny's clutches/whatever that went south or the MLPS, the sensor that's hooked up to the shift lever that tells the tranny/pcm what gear you're in..?
The problems i got was revving to 5K before i got moving in D, sometimes NO reverse or any other gear. I took it for a drive before the mechanic and it just seemed the car lacked acceleration from the tranny..? Common problem is from a stop, you gas it and go nowhere until it revs to 2K. When the tranny's hot the problems are worse. Is it common practice for them to replace the MLPS sensor when replacing the tranny with another one, or do they reuse...? Thanks... BTW literally before these problems i stupidly did a power brake, bringing the rpms to 1500..then release the brakes and floored it.....i'm guessing that's why she went south...yikes..(late night drag race) 95 4.6 v8 tbird.

The problems you describe don't sound like a sensor issue, though. It sounds like worn clutches to me. The tranny works by using hydraulic pressure to apply and release clutches that engage different gearsets. As the clutches wear, the hydraulic pressure can't apply them and slippage occurs. The sensor on Fords if it goes typically makes erratic shifting or no shifting at all, but not usually slippage like you described.

Thanks alot curtis, yeah i just got off the phone with the shop and they said the forward clutch (i believe) and something else was totally worn. The mlps will be replaced also, even though the old one is good.
That mlps sensor is bolted on the side of the tranny outside of it, and the old style's (94 tbird) where prone to getting debris/water/fluid whatever in them and caused erratic shifts. My 95 has the updated one with a red washer to keep crap out. Once again thanks for all your help.

Hey Curtis just an update...i got the car back, it feels good and actually the shifts are more firm which i like. One thing that is odd though is i get torque converter shudder already, lol. These tranny's, the 4r70w in stangs, tbirds, crown vics etc literally DO THAT off the showroom floor-i researched this..it's hysterical (ford quality).
I'm just hoping they replaced the TC with a rebuilt unit like you said..i asked them, and they said yeah. One guys says "YOU don't understand, EVERYTHING gets replaced and is new"...i was like...mmmmmmKay.. One thing i'm gonna order is lubegard dr tranny shudder fix, that worked in my original tranny.

Re: Curtis I Need your Help..!
yeah, that shudder is such a pain. When I worked for a bus company, we ordered 6 new 1996 Ford vans for a limo-type service. 4 of the 6 had that shudder from new. The other two developed the shudder within 70k
It doesn't seem to hurt much, so we just kept on driving them. I left the company when they all had about 200k on them still running just fine... but annoying with that shudder. You might be able to get them to replace the TC and see if you get a slightly better one this time, but its up to you. Congrats, buddy. Doesn't it feel great to have a new tranny?

Re: Curtis I Need your Help..!
Lol, yeah...hopefully they replaced the tc though.
I don't see how they could re-use the old one, being that i have a 1yr warranty. Excuse my paranoid state..lol..but i worked at autozone for 7 months, and dealt with mechanics...a good 80% of them lie.
