hot or cold... you kick the lever into reverse and you have to wait about 5 seconds or perhaps sometimes longer for the car to actually engage in reverse. then most of the time it feels like the clutch is slipping. If you rev it up a little it seems to help which to me denotes a hydralic pressure problem. I'm really not looking forward to rebuilding or replacing this DA#N transmission. Its a 2001, 3800 if that matters. I've read of a lot of problems with this pressure selinoid... could that have something to do with it? It shifts nice and smooth in all forward gears. TIA!!!

Re: no reverse
Sounds more like a mechanical problem related just to REVERSE. On a 4T65E tranny the following components are used in REVERSE: input clutch (on), reverse band (on) and input sprag (hold). Also, there is a pressure switch assembly with reverse switch which works based on commands received from the transmission range switch and PCM.
Normally a defective PCS solenoid will give harsh up or downshifts and high line pressure is commanded on. You might consider taking it to a tranny shop. They can test line pressure and scan for any tranny related DTC error codes. Good luck!

Re: no reverse
Another issue is the chain cover gasket blowing out in the reverse area which will cause a delay and slipping in reverse

Re: no reverse
well if it has 80,000 on it, go get a tranny flush(possible filter too)

Re: no reverse
my impala did the same thing in reserve....the dealership said that a band or something needed a little bit of a rpm push to get it to switch over. They tried the solinoid thing but it didn't fix it...and they did a tranny flush on it too which helped a little bit. But they also stated it wouldnn't affect the longivity of the transmission, but i have my doubts

Re: no reverse
i did a drain (not full flush) and filter last weekend and it seemed to help a teeny tiny bit. Since its the little womans ride I guess it can wait till we want to dive in to the rebuild BS. she can drive one of mine till then
