Exclamation 99 Ford Taurus starting problem

My 99 Taurus hasn't been starting very well, I usually have to pump the gas pedal just to get it to fire up. I talked to a lot of people, they recommended changing the fuel filter, which is one problem, I can't find it. So does anyone know where the fuel filter is located? Anyone have any more recommendations on what to do besides changing the fuel filter??? HELP!!!

Re: 99 Ford Taurus starting problem

Hope questions do not upset you. Have you checked fuel pressure on initial key on? Have you checked fuel pressure when the car is running? Have you checked the idle Speed Control valve? Does it start and die? Or does it just fail to start? Do you pump the gaspedal to keep it running? Or do you open the throttle to get it to start? Answer these and you can get more help. The fuel filter is located under the right rear wheel area. A restricted fuel filter will also give you less power on full acceleration.

I have checked everything dealing with the fuel and the speed control valve. It doesn't die after you start it, you just have to pump the gas pedal to get it to start, but i've noticed that when it does finally start that the clock and the radio are messed up as if the battery has been disconnected.

Look at the TR sensor on top of the transaxle. It is also called the MLP or neutral safety switch.

Re: 99 Ford Taurus starting problem

The fuel filter should be in the rear passenger side right before the fuel line meets the tank. Real easy to fix and real cheep for a new filter. Forget sensors they will drive you crazy trying to hunt stuff down.. Stick to the basics.
