Fiberglass sub box
I was thinking of making them. Would anybody be interested? They would replace the spare tire compartment of the 4G hatches (they may fit other things, but I only have a hatch to design from). They would probably cost about $125-150 when done, and that is mostly materials and equipment. If your interested reply here or send me an email, [email protected]. I could probably add things, like amp racks, at aditional cost.
There are not for sale yet, just market research. -Dustin |

If you can design one to fit 2 10" subs with 2.1 cubic feet. I'll buy one!
But of coarse i'd like to see some rough sketch's or pictures!! |

i'd be interested in 1, but then again i've got more important things to buy and little funds. I'm thinkin about just putting in a single 8inch JL W6.

I am in class now, so I can't get any pics, but I'll try to describe it. Basically it will be flat with the floor extending from the back seat all the way to the back of the hatch with the sub(s) firing straight up. I can make as one airspace or 2 by putting in a baffle. I will have to figure out the actual volume, but for two subs it will be slightly smaller than half for each. I will make the top panel extend all the way to the edges of the floor so that it will be simple to adhere the stock rear carpet to it. This will give a perfect match to the rest of the interior. If I go through with it, I probably won't cut the hole (but could on request) because of personal preference (centered, left, right, further towards the back, closer to the seat, etc...) and I probably won't include carpet (but could on request) you can just use spray adhesive to stick it down and a razor and scissors to trim the sub hole. I will get pics when I get home.

I guess that is an okay response. Sorry 'bout takin' so long, I've been out of town since friday afternoon. I will be making a prototype to hold 2 10's @ .75 cu ft each. I don't have much time to work on it, but I will start tomarrow. Results should be back late this week or next week. I'll post again then.
I also thought of maybe amp racks and some other crazy stuff. Like a hatch light that hangs from the cargo cover and uses the locating pins for contacts. That way it can be removed w/o unhooking any connectors. The factory hatch light is about useless when there is much stuff in the back. -Dustin |

And lemmie know how urs turns out with the box in the wheel well....

Like i said if you can make one with 2.1 cubic feet of air room i'll buy one. Would the glass be sanded ??

this is the best sketch I can do. I am not very artistic.
![]() and if that doesn't work: http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...421_1_full.jpg I got some cloth but need alot more before I can start glassing, so I built the frame today. The inside will be bare glass, the outside will be mold surface glass, and the top will be 3/4" MDF. I could lay a layer of glass over it, but I don't see any reason too unless you plan on using it for DB drags. -Dustin |

Im one to me more worried about the sound than the look of it. Once I sneak in my 12 (sneak cause my dad thinks subs distract the driver too much) I will probably either build a box or buy one at the local flea market.

It's placement should be as good as you can get w/o putting it in the front.
It will be stiff enough to support a pretty good volume, but ya know, it is not gonna be stiff enough for a competition level DB Drag. Those guys use stuff like 1/2" steel or 2" MDF. -Dustin |

Back in the day when TMR Magazine was starting out (with their pocket sized issues) there was a company making fiberglass enclosures just like what you're describing. They made them for 10's or 12's. I don't remember the name of the company though
. I've still got the little issue somewhere & if I find it I'll scan the pic. They looked sweet. As a matter of fact, this is something I've planned on doing for a while. I just haven't had the time. Plus it JUST started to warm up here... I would probably be interested in buyin' one, but I'd really like to see pics of a finished product first .Laterz, CZ-R |
