Any ideas on new system location
My current setup is positioned on the left side of boot but this restricts my access to the spare wheel. Can anyone suggest a new location, anything except the rear of the back seats as its been done to death. I was thinking of installing both amps on the roof lining encased in a surround, with perspex, cooling fans and backlit with blue lights, so it can be seen when you look up sitting in the car. What d'you think?

Amp location
To mount the amp(s) as i have above, firstly, you need to work out the size of the amp board you need by using a sheet of card board, then cut it out in 15 or 18 mm MDF. The board can then be covered in cloth of your choice, amps mounted into position, holes drilled for wires to pass thru, and then you need some metal L-shaped brackets to support the bottom to the boot floor (more drilling) and the back to the inner wheel arch at the top of the board. A bit hard to explain. Its easier than it sounds.

I'd think you'd need to reinforce the roof with some fiberglass or something first to take the weight of the amps.... Plus running thick gauge wire up there would be a pain.... How about creating false floors in the rear of the car and mounting them there? (As in cutting portions of the floor out, mount a steel box underneat, and raise the floor in a few inches in the rear).... Never done it but seen it done, looks SWEEET... hehehe
Idea #2, mount them under the rear tray with a motorized rack to either stick out when the trunk is open, or flip up..... (hey its only money right????) Later Chris

Thanks for the tip, but i think i'll go with the roof mount. Ive had a look and luckily, the sunroof is suspended and i can attach the amp rack to that. The wiring not too bad either, the rear quarter pillar upto the roof is double skinned and theres a large hole to allow wires to pass between the skins and upto where i wanna mount the rack. Basically, im gonna make the rack first , then install the amps from the rear so they are hanging into the rack, and finally finish it off with a MDF and perspex cover. Hard to explain, but give me a month or so, and i'll post some pics.

If you like the way systems are done with the amps flush and a new trunk built in. Wait till you see mine. I was told yesterday that my two amps that are still in Phoenix are done and going to be shipped this week. The way mine is done is like this.. I have 3 amps, 2 of them are Xtant 2200ixR's, the other is a Xtant 1001dx. My sub box has 3 JL 12W6's. The outer subs are put at an angle from the center sub. They are pointing out towards the wheels. The 2 2200ixR amps are angled with the subs.. Those are flush mounted with the trunk. Above them, and only slightly over lapping is the much larger sub amp. I mounted that on a custom designed "shock protector". The amp rests above the 2 amps, and can take quite a pound, from bumps or subs. I'd draw it out.. but then you'd all laugh at me for trying to draw. |

no... go on, i cant really picture it from the description you gave, so anything would help. The problem with making a false floor is that it will still restrict my access to the spare and i really need as much boot space as poss. Also, I own a fast food outlet and often use the boot to carry heavy stock, so the amps will get damaged.
So far, ive managed to make the amp rack, and its off to get covered in vinyl tomorow, a sort of charcoal grey, which matches the original trim. The actual facia, that hold the perspex and covers the amps is gonna be sprayed in silver to match the dash. Im still working on the internal lighting, so far havent had any luck but it has been suggested to me that i should go to someone who makes neon signs and get a rectangle blue neon made to fit inside the amp rack. I'll get on the phone about that tomorow. |

You can go there for pictures of it before I sent two of the amps off. In that picture one of the amps (the sub amp) was already sent to Phoenix. |

it looks nice but tell me, isn't that one of JL's boxes? its a bit too big for my boot.
Anyway, the racks been covered in vinyl, 4 40mm fans have been installed to help cooling and im off to a local neon sign makers to get a neon made for the inside of it. When thats done, its ready for installation which should prove quite interesting. I haven't quite figured out everything yet but i'll come to that when i fit it. Its mainly making sure that its secure enough and can support the weight of the two amps, especially in the event of an accident. I cant get a hold of a Digi Cam so i can take any pics of the stages of manufacture, but i'll post some of the finished product later. Needless to say, ive spent many hours day and night, cutting, drilling, sanding it to perfection, and countless hours running around getting the bits and bobs for it. I hope its worth the hassle in the end. We'll see |

New system location
P11GT,
It all depends whether you want the amps to be seen. Not sure about the P11 but in the P10 if you fold the rear seats forward there is a flap of carpet extending from the boot mat over the hump between the wheel wells. The carpet on the back of the seats attaches to this with velcro pads. Undo them and fold the boot mat carpet back and you find a plastic tool tray with some space next to it. This area forms a sort of hidden compartment which will have ample room for your amps and wont get in the way of anything or use up any boot (trunk) space. Your amps will be well hidden and protected in there. Have a look and see if the setup is the same as the P10. Happy Hooning:sun: |

Thanks for that, my boot has a similar tool tray but it isn't that big, well not big enough for the size of my two amps anyway. I'm near finishing the amp rack now anyway, but i think the main factor as to why i chose to do it this way is to make it eye catching.
Here are some pics of the nearly finishe product, ready for installation. |

In the top pic, you'll notice the cooling fans ive installed. These are 12 volt 40mm fans purchased from an Electronics shop. There are two on both side, one set drawing in air, and the other, expelling air, as once the rack is fixed onto the roof lining, it will be more or less air tight. The amps themselves, also have cooling fans built in behind a motorised sliding door, so this will aid the amps cooling and running at optimum performance.

Amp positioning
And eyecatching it will be.....
That looks sooo proffessional! How will you mount them whole thing to the roof so it doesn't break your neck in a crash? I thought if you remove the tool tray there might have been enough room. (I once saw an alpine amp mounted with 4 self tapping screws sticking thru the roof and a big cable up the middle of the windscreen!!) |

Thank you. It took me ages to get thus far.:smoker2:
My GT has a sunroof, and upon removing enough of the triming to look into the roof lining, i dicovered that the roof slides rear on two rails either side. These rails are suspended from the roof itself and have sufficient room to drill and tap the rack onto. I'm also gonna put metal brackets onto the rear side of the rack where its hidden and bend them around the sides, behind the roof lining and screw them to the bodywork, just behind the hand rails. If i put enough of these on, it should be more than secure, HOPEFULLY |
