My chances?
First off, please don't say just race em; we will eventually.
i have an 02 GT auto with flows and filter. my buddy just bought a 96 Z28 6-speed which sucks for me. he has an CAI and i believe a LT4 intake. His LT1 was recently rebuilt. I know i'm outpowered, but as far as times go, how bad? And what would it take to make them even?

You would prolly run somewhere in the mid 14's in the 1/4 mile, if you're an average driver.
The Z28 would prolly run a low 14 with an avg. driver. So, if you out-launch him, or if he misses a shift, it will be pretty close I'd say. |

Then again, if he has 2.73 gears and you have like 3.27's, I'd give the edge to you.

ud give him the edge? hes not running mid 14's with with a 02 auto gt with exhaust. probaly around 15 flat and 2.73 to 3.27 is only gonna give him like a 5 hp feel difference. i definatly say the Z28 will win

just for information i have 3.27s and he has like 3.42s.

I definetly think he would take you especially if he just had his engine rebuilt, if he has a lt4 intake he might have his lt1 converted into the lt4 and he would defitnetly spank you

he's a good friend of mine. He bought a LT4 intake when the shop broke his intake fixing an oil leak on his 250 mile motor.
Say i got 4.10s and a chip, would it be a good race?

You should just start off with a cai, headers, y pipe, catback, 4.10's and a chip and you would get him

UDP's would be cheaper then headers and would have more gains

A STOCK 96 Z28 WILL BEAT YOU, ESPECIALLY WITH THE 6sp!!!
I believe they had 285hp and he has a stick! You have 260hp+15(maybe 15) with an auto! So let's say you have 270-275hp but you lose more power through the auto. Don't forget your buddy has upgrades also! So he's probably pushing 300-325? He also doesn't lose as much power with the stick, plus he has better gears. Those Z's run high 13's stock all day, and someone mentioned stock Stangs (99-04) run low-mid 14's all day, that's true. So get 4.10's, chip and that should make it a good race. Oh, don't forget pulleys (about 10hp). Good luck, you'll need it. I know they are on the dark side, but they are fast!! |

Oh, I meant you have 260+15, 15 more hp with filter and mufflers, not with the auto....sorry.

My answer is D, all the above.
Your definately gonna have to bring more to the table than flows and filter, 4.10 gears and a chip are mandatory and even then I wouldn't get too comfortable. Sticky tires and a little giggle gas like someone else mentioned should do it.
