fuel pump keeps dying

Hi, we have replaced the fuel pump in a 1994 blazer 3 times now, and this time it still isnt working with the new pump, checked the relay, and even switched to the new harness like they suggest. Checked the fuse as well, can you guys think of anything else that could cause the fuel pump not to have power?

Re: fuel pump keeps dying

maybe it has enought power, its just that the line is plugged somewhere, and it cant get the pressure up. Have you replaced your fuel filter lately? You should always change that when you put a new pump in. Otherwise I would say that there is some corrosion in an elictrical connection somewhere, possibly try tracing your wires all the way back, and make sure all grounds are free of corrosion. But you said you replaced the harness already. I really dont know.

Re: fuel pump keeps dying

I too have a "94" Blazer that needed to replace the fuel pump. If I remember correctly there was a ground wire that needed to be attached to the upper side of the rear bumper. Was this wire re-connected? If so, Then you should be checking the voltage that is coming into the fuel pump from you ignition switch. You could have a faulty switch. No voltage no pump.

yeah the ground is reattached, going to test and see if power is coming back there, dont really want to pull the whole pump out again, but will do it if I have to.

Yes I also changed the fuel filter, fuel pressure is normal as well with the last pump i put in.

If you dont mind me asking, if fuel pressure is normal, then why do you suspect another faulty pump?

Re: fuel pump keeps dying

I would replace the relay just to be sure you don't have a buggy one.

The chances of anyone having 3 defective pumps in a row is slim.

What kind of fuel pump are you using?

Is it a carter fuel pump?

If it is, send it back and install a Delphi pump. Someone just a while ago had the same problem and when they finally installed the Delphi model, everything was perfect.

If it's new and it's not kicking over, meter the power at the harness to make sure you're getting full voltage, meter the ground strap..(even with that, sand down the end of the strap to make sure it's clean, and make sure where it mounts is clean)

Price difference shouldn't be much.

Ah sweet! Gotta hate it when one small connection throws everything off.
