What's up with those coffe can exhausts...

Question for the imports..... what is up with the exhausts with the HUGE tips on them.... most/all of the time you can clearly see the pipe that goes into the exhaust that is about a fouth the size of the tip on the muffler.... what's the point?

Some people can't get past the notion "bigger is better." Well, it isn't always.

Some people just think, bigger is better. Which is not always the case.

Bigger is better when discussing bank rolls, acrage and horsepower. If the garbage sized exhaust helps with any of these, then its worth looking stupid for (I guess). Otherwise, its a real bad fasion statement and frankly it doesnt strike much fear in me. Those imports, like BMW and Porches, look stupid with those things on them. Domestics on the other hand, look even worse.

I don't see how a domestic would look worse. Musclecars look more like they need something huge to expel the gases from their big engines.

But unless its functional I don't like them on any car.

Oh I see, you should have phrased that a little better. Maybe, Why do ricers have huge exhaust tips? then maybe a ricer would answer your question.

They do it to be noticed. A four Cyl. can't make the noise a V-8 can so somebody decided to make it appear as if it could so their engine "Sounds" beefy. You right about those muscle cars too, I was at the races the other day and their was one car ( Late model Camaro or Monte Carlo) that had a 7 or 8 inch single sidepipe coming out. It was nonthe less a race car but it had a fairly stock 355 cid.
