I cant feel V-tec on my 95 accord!

I just brought a 95 Accord EX with 30k on it. No matter at what gears or rpm I just cant feel the vtec kick in. I been into a GSR and when vtec there is a sudden jerk and increase in acceleration. For my accord I just felt nothing. Could there be a problem in my accord?

ive got a 97 accord w/vtec. its not going to set you back in the seat, but you can feel it pull a little bit.

I did some research on this forum. ppl say that if u have DOHC engine then u can definitely feel it compare to SOHC. The problem with mine is I cant hear it with the Ingen intake on or feel a jerk.

That's really a low mileage '95. Was it driven by someone elderly in its previous life? I've got a '95 with the F22B1. I find that if I baby the engine, it will run sort of rough. If I rev it freely, it runs well. I think that it had some carbon buildup when I first got it, and then I cleared it out. Maybe your car just has carbon buildup or something from being babied by the previous owner that will take a few thousand miles to blow out...

I also found that when I replaced the fuel filter (the thing had 100k miles on it!!) I got way more top end power. It was like a different car! The manual says that its a lifetime part, but my Haynes repair manual says to replace it every 30k. From now on I'm going to do that. You're right at that number, so that might be something to look at too.

And the most obvious thing, make sure the car is perfectly tuned up. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that though.

just did a tune up few weeks ago. Changed engine oil, oil filter, and balance the pressure on all 4 tires. btw my car was a rebuilt but its in drivable condition is just that i think the chassis is more to right that is y pepboys guys cant fix my alignment. Everything works in the car, I tested everything out. But I my mechanic told me the blower(AC and heat thing) is pretty loud. Is this normal? The engine is in good condition and so is everything in the engine compartment. I just rev my car a few hrs ago and I notice at around 4-5rpm the meter jump really quick to redline then i shift. I think that is V-tec on SOHC. I hardly felt it. man accord sucks

How old are your sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and fuel filter?

is it and auto or manual. if its an auto just smash it until you go through the RPM rang you'll defenitly feel it, or if its a manual just stay in 2nd or 3rd gear until redline, either way you'll feel it at like 4 or 5 grand.

Re: Re: I cant feel V-tec on my 95 accord!

The last spark plug change was 3-4months ago. The other stuff u mention I havent touch them yet. My is a manual transmission. I think I felt the v-tec on my 1st and 2nd gear around 4-5 rpm. Is there something can do to boost it up? Maybe some iridium sparkplugs?

Check the condition of your cap and rotor, consider changing your plug wires if they're old (time-wise), and definitely, definitely do the fuel filter. I can't overstate the effect that changing it had on my car at high rpms. In fact, I didn't feel V-TEC at all until I replaced the fuel filter. Night and day difference!

Make sure to run good gas too. I always use Chevron. On BP or ARCO, the car runs like a dog! Anything with the Top Tier rating is good.

yea ur completely right. I used Citgo and change to BP, man it really make a difference in performance. Also the nite and day do make a difference but that is not the case here. I think I am going to change the fuel filter and the spark plug wires.

I mean that the difference in performance before and after changing my fuel filter was like the difference between night and day, not that driving at night is different performance-wise from the day.

Re: I cant feel V-tec on my 95 accord!

I drive a '01 V6 EX, and I don't feel the VTEC at all, I've gone easy up through the rpms, and I've floored it, but I've never felt it. It should be felt around 3500 rpms, but I usually only go up to 3000 before I let the auto shift. If I go any higher than 3k, it's because some idiot can't drive the speed limit and I floor it to get around them.

The strongest acceleration I've felt is right when it switches into 2nd and then flooring it.
