Question Want to buy a 97 Eclipse RS! GOOD DEAL??

Hey Ya'll,
Im obviosly new to AF> ANYWAYS my friend is willing to sell me his 1997 Eclipse RS. It has been lowered, 17" rims, 5-spd, about 150,000 miles, intake, header, apexi catback. Hes willing to sell it for $3200 with his system. Anyways do you think thats a good deal? His car seems to burn ALOT of gas, and he seems to have to refill the oil evry so often. (So iam thinking its running rich)
Also is A/C is not working and neither is the power steering. ALso if ya'll could explain how these would be fixed would be great!!
I know a good a good bit about the 420 a and 4g63 engines, so I'll know what ur talkin about THANKS!!!!!!!!

You know a good bit about engines but you can't tell when one is consuming to much oil??

The thing is obviously a lemon.

Re: Want to buy a 97 Eclipse RS! GOOD DEAL??

I mean i have driven it many times, and it runs great and all, but sometimes when you floor it jus a little black smoke will come out of the tailpipe!

Anyways just out of curiosity, why would the power steering squeak when turning left and right? Is the belt slipping off the pulley?

Smoke, squeeking belts, oil leak, gas guzzler, no a/c

For $3200 there are plenty of better cars you could get. Don't waste your money on something like that.

Sounds like a better deal, if you can do the head gasket yourself. Otherwise it's an expensive job to have done.

Re: Want to buy a 97 Eclipse RS! GOOD DEAL??

Ohh yea I technically know how to change it. I mean I have done ALOT, ALOT...and ALOT of research on how I would change it. And plus, thats the one way to learn is "hands-on", right?!
Plus why the head is off, I can give it a valve job, etc..

Im just tryin to decide if the $1200 is a good deal (FOR A 1996 THE BODY AND INTERIOR IS IN ABSOLUTE EXCELLENT CONDITION.) The driver of the car is (was{HAHA})a women.!!

I think Imma give her my offer tomorrow!
