5spd problems...

I know this isnt the truck forum but I do have a question anyway. I have a 1990 F-150 5.0/5spd. I've been told its a Mazda tranny. Well the input shaft bearing or whatever let go in mine and the input shaft was binding. So I pulled a tranny out of another truck that was the same exact transmission as the one in my truck. Well I just got done swapping them out and installed a new clutch, pp, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing, ect ect. These trannys have hydraulics instead of the old cable and fork. Well the junkyard tranny shifted great before I pulled it. Now that its in my truck its stuck in neutral and when I try to start the motor something in the tranny binds up. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like for some reason your hydraulic t/o bearing is not disengageing the clutch.

Re: 5spd problems...

I fixed it. Took my junk tranny apart just to get a few ideas of what the problem could be. Ended up being the whole top plate on these trannys which has the shift forks and the overdrive/reverse dogleg thing. Fore some reason after we installed the tranny it wouldnt shift into any gear at all. So I just swapped the two tops and everything is fine. I tossed the junk plate into the bed of the truck and the jolt got it working again lol. Best I could figgure was maybe a detent was hung up or in a bind somehow. Working fine now though. Thanks for the advice though.
