What is this????????

hey guys, what is this? It looks to me like its basically a capacitor, but I really dont see the need for something like this. Does it really do what it says it does, increase torque, increase fuel economy, increase engine response, more smooth acceleration? It seems like its one of those myths like on 60degreev6.com. I think its bullshit, what do you think? If it was really that great, wouldnt it come standard on cars these days? Thanks for any info.

Re: What is this????????

Sure, why would an already fairly stable voltage need to be fine-tuned? Unless you're running NASA quality stuff in your car, which any driver short of rally or professional race will not be doing, I don't think you'll notice jack from that.

I could be wrong, of course, but it sounds like those "+20 HP resistor mod!!!" ads. Sure, it'll change the IAT charge reading but the computer will simply see a rich condition and disregard the IAT input, cutting it back lean.

60degreev6.com is a great place for mythbusting. I love it there. Some things make sense logically, sure. But practically, most don't take off nearly as well.

My favorite? Electric superchargers...

hi guys,

just for the info, dont be fooled by these mythes (specially this one). the most it has is a voltage regulator chip with couple of capacitor.

and for more info, all the ecm's are fully equipped with much much better voltage regulators. infact, this guy is increasing the voltage a little bit - say 0.5 volts of normal, which definitly effects the light, but, ECM? no way!.
coz once, even if you feed more voltage to ecm then 12v from battery...the ECM's built-in regulator will regulate it to 5-volts. (the whole ecm system works on 5 volts only).
so, no matter what you feed (upto 30v) the ECM will regulate it to 5volts.

the only effect i see from this regulator is on lights - sure you will see them brighter.

and yes, it is possible to have 13 volts from 12 volts battery...its not something impossible. its called step-up technique which, for 0.5 volt increase is very cheap to design.

i am into designing electronic stuff since i was 14, and i have a very good idea of how people can go fake.

Thanks and Best Regards

Re: What is this????????

I think its a bunch of crap. The only thing I could see this improving is if a person had a system in it, an amp and a couple subs. But other than that, it seems completly worthelss, and not worth my trouble and money. If it comes down to 10 bux, then I might give it a go, but otherwise, not a chance. Thanks for the input so far. Any one else care to comment? Jeffcoslacker? Anyone?
