1985 300td transmission

i have transmission troubles with my sons 300 td turbo wagon, every thing was fine running perfect as usual, we stopped at a stop sign, then when we tried to go the engine reved up to about 3000 and the car would then begin to roll off very slowly, then after slowly picking up speed it would shift to 2nd and things seemed normal untill the next stop sign when the same behavior would re occur
I have removed the valve body throughly cleaning it and replacing with no change thinking something was dirty.

does anyone know where to find a transmission manual? chiltons books lack adequate info . or can anyone please help

i would rebuild myself but with no manual that could be a disaster

I don't know where to find a manual(you might check the links at the bottom of this post) but I did want to point out that you may be better off just buying a rebuilt trans. from Mercedes. They are suprisingly cheap. The last time I priced a 722.3 it was around 1200.00. Now if you just needed to replace the clutches and steels you might get by cheaper to rebuild it yourself but if there is anything wrong mechanically, it will get real expensive real quick when you start buying transmission components. Figure in the time you save in labor and the fact the rebuilt trans. carries a 2 year/24k mile warranty and it makes the choice easier.
