1992 GMC Jimmy 4.3L (W) V.I.N, v6 Four Door, 4x4. 64,500 Miles.
5 years ago the ABS light came On, and the ABS breaking system ceased to work. The truck was brought to GM to be inspected. The fix was expensive so they suggested disconnecting the ABS system. This was done and normal breaking was used ever since. Question: What would GM “disconnect” to disable the ABS? Fuse, wire connectors, clear codes and reset computer? Any suggestion would be most helpful. I would love to have the ABS up and running for the winter. |

Re: Reconnecting ABS Breaking system
check around the abs controller. There may just be a wire plug unplugged. The abs controller is the thing by the master cylinder where all the brake lines run to. Replacing one of these with a new one would cost about 600.00 bux.

I’m still trying to figure out how to put my ABS system back online. As I stated above GM dealers ‘disconnected’ it b/c it was too expensive to fix.
I checked around for disconnected wires at both the EHCU/BPMV and at all four wheel sensors. Nothing abnormal has been found. I checked the fuse box and had a history report printed out from GMC. ----------------------------------------------------- HISTORY – 01/19/98 Complaint: ABS Lamp On Description: Scan test for trouble codes Story: Clear Codes 63 & 65 from system. If codes return then will need new B.P.M.V 03/11/98 Complaint: ABS lamp and park brake lamps are on Description: trouble shoot brake problem as per tech copy of R/O Story: N/A ------------------------------------------------------ Chilton Codes 61, 62, 63 – Reset switches Codes 65-66 – open or shorted motor relay Haynes Codes 41 through 66 – 4WAL control unit I asked GM if they might disconnect the ABS lamp, and they said definitely not! It seems appetent that I need a new BPMV, but I would like to put the original one back online and clean the speed sensors and tone wheels to determine if replacement is necessary or put it back on line to extract the codes. One more point. When I start the truck the ABS lamp does not light, and has not since the work last work on 03/11/98. (burnt out lamp!) |
