1996 Caprice, Reliability & chronic problems?

Hello, I am new to this forum and researching some used cars inorder to decide on what to buy to replace my Failing 1985 Monte Carlo. I am considering a '96 Caprice and would like to know if anyone knows of any chronic problems that I should be aware of ? Also, was that the last year it was made ? And was there only that one large V8 engine that came with it ? I know nothing about fixing cars and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Thak you,
Clyde howell

there are not really any major problems with the car, they last forever, 96 is the last year they made it. it came with a couple engine sizes, including a tpi 4.3l v8, 5.0l tbi, 5.7l LT1, and i think it might have came with a v6

The 4.3 is a v6 isn't it?

Alright, just to set the records straight as far as engines go:

4.3L 262-cid V6 (1985-1990)
5.0L 305-cid V8 with Throttle Body Injection called L03 (from 1989 to 1993)
5.7L 350-cid V8 with Throttle Body Injection called L05 (from 1989 to 1993)
5.7L 350-cid V8 with Sequencial Port Injection called LT1 (1994-1996)
4.3L 265-cid V8 with Sequencial Port Injection called L99 (1994-1996)
5.0L 307-cid V8 with 4 barrel carb (????-1990)

These are the engines of the 1989 and later Caprice (last production year was 1996). All of the above are fuel injected except the last. Major problems are mostly limited to opti-spark unit on 1994-1996 Caprice; otherwise, they have most of the issues of aging cars, but they will run forever.
