F40 Idea

I was just remembering some of the cool trivia I heard about the Ferrari F40, and I was thinking, would it be possible to build an F40 that had paint on it, but the paint was thin enough to see carbon fiber decals through it? Has anybody done this? I think it would be really cool, as that's how thin the paint on the real F40 is.

Maybe you can put your carbon fiber and spray Clear Red on it...

Re: F40 Idea

You could do it with a paint that would otherwise require a white primer because of translucency, like Tamiya's Italian red or Bright red, or even yellow.

Re: F40 Idea

Carbon + clear paint.

You can see the Supra from Robex (awesome) with this technique

The bodywork on the F40 is mosly kevlar, not CF.

It would be tough to make it look good.

Re: F40 Idea

You can't actually see the colour of the kevlar, just the 3-D effect. At least on the one I saw at a show. So you need to cover something with paint but still be able to see the weave pattern. But it's not very prominent so maybe some orange peel in the paint job would do the trick, at least in 1/24th scale. Someone here at the forum did just that, can't remember who though?

That's my !

Re: F40 Idea

Veyron left the paint unpolished on his F40, and the effect is about as real as you'll get. It's pretty convincing.

What about the new HI-Def CF from SMS? Isn't it supposed to have a realistic texture to it, so that a light coat of paint won't obscure it?

Re: F40 Idea

I came up with a possible idea! If you mix the red with clear, it should work, since they are equally thick and wont run like crazy
